Maersk Sealand Defined-Benefit Plan Wind-Up

The company's explanation for its decision to wind up the Sea-Land defined benefit scheme. This is an early example of the use of the wind-up option which allows companies to close schemes under the 1995 Pensions Act, paying pensioners in full but paying deferred members only the MFR valuation of their benefits. The move saved Maersk around £35mio, according to the company's figures.
